Playing perfect basic strategy, vs 6 deck shoe, paying 3/2 on blackjack. is 99% possible with no counting strategies? Love Blackjack, great game. Trying to understand your question:
*Are you asking if you can return 99.0% gross, so -1.0% Net?
...That answer = Yes.
Blackjack EV is largely based upon the rules you're playing. Any Rule change has an impact: *S17 is better than H17. *DAS is valuable for Double After Split. *RSA is valuable but No RSA is standard. *Surrender is an advantageous rule. Most players don't understand it. And Dealers are clueless on Surrender, too.
Against any decent rules, Basic Strategy should get you to -0.40% as a start.

Doesn't seem like a great goal in life. "Hey, Joe. Hope I just get grilled a little today. Don't want to get totally reamed."

The most exciting hands are the DAS plays. It's fun to get your blood stirring when you have a big bet out and it gets 5x'd after Splits and Doubles.
2/2 and 8/8 often make for good splitting hands. Bad starting hand that turns into two potentially good hands.

Also, one comment on blackjack. Thorp's BEAT THE DEALER was published in 1962. That's > 60 years ago.
I'll go ahead say that it's my favorite book ever. Consider the date of 1962. At that time, Ed was working off fairly primitive computers. He was able to publish great charts on various counting methods.
The stories in that book are from a time warp. Understand that the casinos have had sixty years to perfect counter-measures. Most of the games now are bad to mediocre (at best).
If you think you're going to figure out something new on Blackjack, good luck. You're late to the party.

Don’t ever take insurance whatever you do 🃏 Per usual. It depends:
*If you're NOT counting, don't take insurance. ...It's a terrible bet. About a -10% EV. ...Standard deck = 4 Tens, 9 Non-tens. ...So, 9 (-100) + 4 (+200) = -10. On 100 risk, that's -10% EV.
*If you're counting, a High count can indicate a +EV Insurance bet. ...If your count is high enough, that the remaining (Ten)/(Non-Ten) Ratio is > 2/1, you are +EV. ...At high counts, that ratio can approach 35%. ...(.35)(200) + (.65)(-100) = +5. Try finding a lot of +5% ROI bets on the casino floor.

BlackJack hands that often get played wrong: Good stuff, I play all of them correctly except I normally dont double 11 vs an ace( I must have an old chart on that one). I get a lot of groans if I hit my 12 vs a 3 and bust(oh man you took his bust card), I cant stand that prob 70% of players insure their BJ. As the guy said, very few people really play BJ well. 11 vs Ace is close. It depends upon the game: *Holding 56, Double on Single-Deck. Your displacement effect is good. *Holding 56, Hit vs 6-deck. Not enough of a displacement effect.
12 vs 3 is very close. Any displacement makes Stand > Hit.

Salud, Slick.
If we could only go back in time. Read some of the stories in BTD. The House was playing Single-Deck and dealing all the way thru. They literally had to re-shuffle the cards that played thru!
There are a few blackjack games I still like to play. But there certainly aren't too many Free Lunches out there.

I mentioned in my 1st post here that I'll try to post +EV information here (when possible).
I'll start with one. And FHead can post his opinions in here:
*If you are a Vegas resident or at least visit Vegas once or twice per year, purchase the LV Advisor coupon book. I just listened to the podcast that Anthony Curtis was on.
Anthony said that the casinos were pretty liberal on their Blackjack coupons this year. There are some very generous 2x and 3x Blackjack coupons in the book.
Read the fine-print on the coupon. But it should be pretty simple. Play BJ with Basic Strategy at the casino UNTIL you hit the Natural. You then present the coupon, get paid and then stop playing. Very easy +EV play, and the denominations are pretty good this year.
